The Beaney How to get here

A Hands-On-History day of fun and discovery with the Beyond the Binary team from the University of Kent.

  • Beyond the Binary: Performing Gender Then and Now
Join us for a day of historical exploration as we journey through the archives of pantomime and variety from the 1800s to the present day. Explore what these popular forms of performance can tell us about ideas and experiences of gender in the past and today.

There will be a range of activities for all the family to enjoy, including drop-in sessions featuring researchers, pantomime dames and male impersonators – like Adam Borzone, Naomi Paxton and Andre Vincent.

Beyond the Binary is an Arts and Humanities Research Council funded collaborative research project in which academic and voluntary public researchers are working together to unearth the histories of gender play and presentation lying unexplored in the University of Kent’s music hall and pantomime collections.

Admission Free, donations encouraged.
