International Interactive Workshops at The Beaney

This summer, we have introduced a new, hands-on interactive workshop aimed at our International student visitors. These active learning sessions have proved to be extremely popular and we have welcomed over 237 students aged 8-17 from France, China, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Poland and Russia along with their 47 group leaders too!

Students are introduced to Canterbury and its surroundings, i.e. Canterbury Cathedral, River Stour and city centre. They learn about Medieval Canterbury through a map of William Ury, Thomas Becket and get to handle medieval objects such as Pilgrim badges, ampullas and they even get to try on a Pilgrim’s hat!  Students and their accompanying support staff learn about items from the museum collection in People and Places, Masters and Materials and The Study and they also get to learn some mini-mindfulness whilst studying some of the paintings on display.

One group leader commented, ‘I love how interactive it is for the students, so they have to look at everything closely and are very engaged.’ Concorde International Programmes Manager, Adam Fox, after observing a session remarked that, ‘all the students were getting involved and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.’

If you are interested in booking an interactive workshop for your students, please contact our Learning team on: learning@canterbury.gov.uk

Workshop prices start at £4 per student for a 45 minute workshop and accompanying teachers go free.
