Session details

On arrival please introduce yourselves at our main visitor information desk and then make your way upstairs to our Learning Lab. Our facilitator will greet you and show you where to put coats and bags and lead you into the Learning Lab where part of the session will take place.

There are two parts to the workshop. One is facilitated by museum staff, the other is led by your teachers / staff. One group will be introduced to the LEGO Spike Essential kit. They will design buildings to reduce the impact of earthquakes on people and use their model to test the effectiveness of their design solution. The other half of the group will visit Canterbury Roman Museum to learn what the Roman city was like. This part of the session is led by the teachers / adults accompanying your group. The groups will then swap, each part will take approximately 75 minutes. (2.5 hours in total)

The capacity for the Lego section of the workshop is 16 students at a time. If your class is larger than this, we would split the class into two groups.

There are several options to choose from depending on your budget:

Option 1: 75 minute visit exploring The Beaney museum galleries (free admission, donations gratefully received)

Option 2: Visit nearby Canterbury Roman Museum with a complementary Explorer Guide (£5)

Option 3: Visit other sites in Canterbury such as the Roman City walls or Watling Street in Westgate Gardens.
