Before your visit
We advise that all teachers conduct a preliminary visit before arriving with their pupils. If you phone in advance a member of the learning team may be able to meet you and help you with your planning.
Accompanying adults
Please ensure that all accompanying adults on your visit are aware of their role on the visit and are prepared to engage in the learning and support the pupils.
Responsibility for children on site
The group leader is responsible for the behaviour and well-being of their group at all times.
Lunch facilities
Lunch room facilities are available. Please select ‘YES’ you would like to book a lunch room space when booking your chosen workshop/s via our Schools Booking Form.
Lunch Room costs are as follows:
£1 per student (minimum £30 for 30 minutes)
Maximum Group Size
Canterbury Roman Museum has a limited capacity. During busy periods, groups may be asked to split and stagger their visits. The other half of the group may like to visit The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge.
Arrival and departure
Please allow plenty of time in your schedule to arrive at the museum on time ready to start your visit. Allow time for traffic, coach parking and walking through the busy city centre.
Coach drop off and parking
There is no parking outside Canterbury Roman Museum. Coach drivers can book an appropriate coach drop off time at Canterbury Bus Station (5 minutes’ walk), or a parking space at Canterbury Coach Park (15 minutes’ walk).
Payment and Cancellations
If payment is not made on the day (by cash, credit card or cheque payable to Canterbury City Council), we will invoice for the number of visitors that was originally booked or however many actually visited on the day (whichever is higher). If a visit is cancelled less than 2 weeks before it is due to take place, we regret we will still request payment to cover incurred costs.

COVID-19 update
We are happy to announce that we are welcoming schools and educational groups back to the museums for teacher-led visits, facilitated workshops and tours.
Canterbury Museums & Galleries have been delivering fun and inspiring educational workshops for over 20 years, bringing subjects to life as part of a rich, cross-curricular experience.
Inspired by our award-winning Health and Wellbeing programme, our Learning offer provides the opportunity to explore, share and socialise to renew confidence and friendships. We are in a unique position to support your school’s pandemic recovery curriculum and we look forward to welcoming you back to the museums!
We have procedures in place to ensure that your visit will be as safe and enjoyable as possible:
- Areas used for workshops are regularly cleaned and sanitiser stations are available throughout the museums.
- We are temporarily waiving our cancellation fees in the event that schools need to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
