We offer six hands-on workshops for international school groups visiting Canterbury.

The workshops highlight art, history and archaeology in the city and provide an exciting opportunity for students to practise their English.

The available workshops have been tailored to support elements of the French school curriculum (History, English and Art), but can also be adapted to suit your specific needs.

Medieval Canterbury: Beckett, Pilgrims & Canterbury

Investigate the life and death of the martyr Thomas Becket, discover what it was like to be a pilgrim, and learn about life in medieval Canterbury in this fun, interactive workshop in one of Canterbury’s finest medieval buildings.

Examine artefacts including medieval pilgrim badges and possible fragments of Becket’s shrine, and explore how Church and society were so closely linked in medieval society.

Meet an archaeologist to discover what archaeology can tell us about life in the past! Investigate and handle real artefacts, learn and practise simple English words and phrases, whilst exploring the art treasures of the Beaney museum.

Workshops can focus on the practice of archaeology in general or be tailored to suit groups specifically interested in Roman archaeology.

A hands-on history of Canterbury

An exciting interpreter-led hands-on workshop to learn about the history of Canterbury!

Your students will investigate a series of mysterious artefacts from the museum; including prehistoric flints, medieval pilgrim souvenirs and artefacts from World War Two. Students will have to work as a team to discover what they are and what they can tell us about the history of Canterbury. This workshop is a great opportunity for students to practise their English words and phrases.

View paintings by Canterbury’s most famous local artist, Thomas Sidney ‘Cow’ Cooper. Learn about our founder Dr Beaney, and share your ideas about the mysterious portrait of The Girl at the Door.
