Family fun at The Beaney this summer!

Firstly… Thank you so much to everyone that nominated The Beaney for the Family Friendly Museum Award. Guess what? We’ve been shortlisted!

We’re really proud to have been rated as one of the Best Medium Museums for families in the UK as part of the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Award.

During the summer we’ll be visited by undercover judges who will work with Kids In Museums to determine the most family friendly museums in the country.

Apply to be an undercover judge for Kids In Museums.

We have so much family fun planned for the summer holidays so here’s what’s coming up…

LEGO in the Learning Lab!

Learn to code, build fantastic robotic creations and bring them to life using motors, sensors and coding using LEGO® Education SPIKE Essentials!

Right now you can book for workshops for: Wednesday 2, Saturday 5, Wednesday 9, Saturday 12 August 2023.

We hope to add more and more dates throughout the summer!

Do you listen to Fun Kids Radio? No better time to start than the summer holidays.

Join Fun Kids Radio at The Beaney and become a Heritage Hero! Children will meet some of the team behind Fun Kids Radio and get the opportunity to develop skills in research, recording and producing as they take the lead in discovering their local heritage!

There will be three workshops on Tuesday 8 August 2023.

Let’s Play Portraits!

If you haven’t visited in a while you’ll see a few new faces in our People & Places gallery. Alongside the new portraits is our updated family activity: Let’s Play Portraits!

Choose some costumes, a few props and make a family portrait to remember.

As always there are family activities throughout the museum, explore and you’ll find them or ask our friendly staff for their top tips.

Ancient Wisdom: Exploring science through the ages

You won’t have to wait long before you can get into our eagerly awaited family exhibition.

Ancient Wisdom opens on Saturday 12 August. Build, turn, spin, wedge, wheel, weigh, pull and play… Test out ancient science that changed the world and learn through play!

Our friendly staff will help you get to grips with groundbreaking ideas from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.

We know it can be tough finding affordable ways to occupy the kids all summer so make sure a visit to this interactive exhibition is on your calendar!
